Public testimony is one of our most important tools in getting our opinions and concerns across to our Legislators, and the Alaska State Legislature maintains a page of opportunities for public testimony. Here are 2 published meetings (oil tax and internet privacy), plus one that I heard about at last night’s reception (University funding). Contact your Legislative Information Office (or 907-465-4648) if you have questions.
Saturday, April 29, 9:00 AM: HB 111 OIL & GAS PRODUCTION TAX; PAYMENTS; CREDITS. The House Bipartisan Majority has done a great job coming up with a plan to repair the enormous deficit we have after 25 years of unfettered Republican leadership in Alaska. The House passed a four-part budget plan, and now they need our help to bring the Senate majority aboard.
Saturday, April 29, 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM: Public comment on University funding – I think in the House Finance Committee. This is a chance to talk without having to relate it to a specific bill. Contact Rep. Justin Parish (907-465-3744) for details.
Monday, May 1, 3:15 PM: HB 230 TELECOMMUNICATIONS & INTERNET PRIVACY. You remember how U.S. Rep. Don Young sold out our privacy on the internet? Well, our State House has a bill to combat that, and you can support it on Monday.
